Griffith Park Brush Canyon Native Plant Hike
Sunday, July 22 at 8 a.m.
Join the California Native Plant Society and Friends of Griffith Park on a moderately steep hike up the canyon to look for ocellated Humboldt lily, scarlet larkspur, California goldenrod and cardinal monkeyflower with a possible side trip to the Bronson Caves to look for blazing star at the quarry there. Meet at the locked gate at the very top of Canyon Drive which is reached by heading north from Franklin Ave in Hollywood. Parking is limited near the gate but plentiful lower down Canyon Drive. There is a porta-potty at one of the parking lots but no water. Be prepared for heat however there is some shade along the canyon. Terrain will be uneven requiring proper boots; be prepared to scramble, as this trail is not maintained. Bring plenty of water, hat, sunscreen, snack.
